*New Paid Opportunity* with Dorset Race Equality Council for an Operations Manager

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Context

Dorset Race Equality Council is a charity operating in Dorset, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. Their purpose is to work towards the elimination of racial discrimination and to promote equality of opportunity and good community relations. The charity is overseen by a small board of trustees and four staff. Currently, they do not have a Chief Officer and this role is to temporarily support staff and maintain the smooth functioning of operations.

Job Purpose

The role of the Operations Manager is to be responsible for overseeing and delivering operational duties, coordinating all projects and operations, and ‘front-of-house’ communications. The person will be responsible for supporting and supervising the staff and reporting to the board of trustees. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Monitor and update the annual operational plan.
  • Provide support to ensure projects (for example, Online Training, Empowering Communities) are delivered to schedule and plan, maintaining appropriate records for evaluation and reporting to funders. This will entail monitoring progress, identifying and addressing potential risks to delivery.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and members and report as appropriate, including undertaking assessing impact of work through for example feedback.
  • Attend events requiring Dorset REC presence according to availability and importance or delegate as appropriate.
  • Support and supervise the work of staff and foster their wellbeing.
  • Assist in recruitment and induction of staff or volunteers.
  • Assist in fundraising such as preparing funding bids.

Person Specification

Skills and Abilities

  • The ability to work on own initiative, prioritise workload, meet deadlines and manage various tasks effectively.
  • Independent decision-making and ability to delegate tasks effectively.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively at all levels and develop positive working relationships.
  • It is desirable to have knowledge and ability to prepare funding bids.
  • Confident verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Effective computer literacy.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, under pressure and monitor outcomes.

Experience and knowledge

  • Clear commitment to the aims and values of Dorset REC is essential.
  • Knowledge of working with the voluntary and community sector, and statutory bodies.
  • Experience in managing projects and staff.
  • A good understanding of the principles and implementation of Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding and information governance policies.

CONDITIONS

Term: 6-month fixed-term contract, starting April/May 2024, with the possibility of renewal

Time: 15 hours per week to be worked flexibly

Remuneration: £20.00 per hour on a self-employed contract

Reporting to: Board of Trustees

Location: Mainly work from home but travel across Dorset required as appropriate
