Community Credit Scheme - Self Employed Gardener

We are seeking someone with good gardening knowledge who can lead a small group of volunteers, some of whom have additional needs, in Weymouth on a weekly basis.  

Volunteer Centre Dorset (VCD) promotes volunteering to all throughout Dorset and are accredited by the NCVO. The Community Credit Scheme is a project run by VCD and enables adults with learning disabilities to volunteer, with the support of a Mentor or Befriender if appropriate.  

This project is seeking a lead gardener who can deliver workshops on a self-employed basis from March to October 2022 for four hours a week, two of these hours must be used on a Friday morning between 10.30am and 12.30pm.   

We are looking for someone with good communication skills, who will promote equality and diversity and has empathy for others. This role will enhance the lives of the people working on the project and benefit the local community. 

Your role will be to: 

  • Enable people with additional needs to grow food & plants in a small plot 
  • Encourage local people to get involved through conversations and helping at events 
  • Provide guidance and knowledge in gardening and supervise people attending the group 
  • Promote Volunteer Centre Dorset and the Community Credit Scheme
  • Make sure all equipment is used properly and within Health and Safety guidelines
