We need trustees who can continue to improve and develop the achievements of the volunteer centre so far.

You will work with a dedicated team of trustees and staff to help shape the organisation ensuring it is fit for the future.

 

What will you be doing?

Your key role is to help develop a business plan that includes:

  • Continuous review and monitoring of the business plan
  • Ensuring the business plan is relevant, effective and meets our core objectives
  • Learning about Volunteer Centre Dorset and its history
  • Developing a robust strategic plan that encompasses all our work

You may be part of a small focus group to develop key areas of the business plan, it will involve all members of the organisation needing their input and evaluation of the organisation.

The organisation has gone through substantial changes in funding and staffing and needs to ensure it is strong and robust to continue to support volunteers and organisations in the future, we recognise the challenges of the sector and the limited available funding in Dorset compared to other more urban areas. At the same time we recognise the need to review, improve and adapt to our current climate.

The organisation is a registered charity and a registered company, limited by guarantee, we are members of NCVO, our governing body. achieved VCQA since its introduction. (Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation). and represent the sector on many strategic local platforms.

Our current board consists of :

  • Chairman - business and retail background
  • Vice Chair – business and mentoring background
  • Finance Director – Background in statutory services, financial and charities
  • Trustee -   national charity and financial background
  • Trustee -  local authority, commissioning background
  • Trustee – large international business background

 

What are we looking for?

Ideally you will have live in Dorset, have local knowledge for the needs of people and groups in Dorset.

Skills required:

  • Ideally someone with HR experience and knowledge
  • Business Development, Management Change, Basic IT Skills (Microsoft), communication skills,, geographical knowledge of Dorset, understanding of the charity sector, attend meetings bi monthly, but whilst developing the business plan more often. Being a good team member is essential for our organisation.

Desirable:

  • Background in Charity and Community support, have a good understanding of the opportunities for the sector in Dorset, have own transport, willing to participate in events organised by the centre, willing to shadow staff and volunteers.
  • To have some knowledge of applying for funding, both commissioning and charitable would be an advantage.
  • An understanding of people’s needs, especially those with disabilities. You will be expected to understand and implement our equality and diversity policy and procedure sat all times.

 

What difference will you make?

We have recently completed a review and restructure to ensure we meet the needs of our customers at the same time growing our capabilities and services, especially to those in Dorset’s communities who may need additional support. The review has meant changes and how we deliver our services.

We need trustees to support and take forward these changes and oversee the implementation of these changes. We need someone who can help the organisation develop its business plan to ensure its continued success.

Your input will help VCD continue to be the recognised centre of excellence in Dorset.
