Volunteer Engagement Coordinator

Location:    Volunteer Centre Dorset Office (Dorchester) with travel across Dorset
Grade:        SCP 17
Salary:        £26,845
Hours:        Full time – 37 hours per week
Contract:    12 Months
Reports to: Training and Development Lead  

 

Key objectives of the job

  • To support people into volunteering across the Dorset Council area, match them with appropriate roles  
  • To develop new initiatives and volunteer roles across Dorset
  • To carry out follow up calls with people who want to volunteer
  • To support volunteers with additional needs to find suitable volunteering roles
  • Developing volunteering with young people in schools, colleges etc and suitable roles with organisations
  • To work with referring agencies such as probation, Job Centre Plus and support workers
  • Ensure that the mission, vision and values of VCD are followed

 

Communication and representation

  • Work with volunteers and groups to deliver positive outcomes for everyone
  • Establish mechanisms for listening to the views of beneficiaries
  • Work effectively with the team, across core work and projects, to review and improve our processes

 

Essential Skills

  • A good understanding of working with and supporting people
  • Excellent communication – including listening skills
  • A overall IT skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft 365
  • Flexibility – we are a dynamic charity that often needs to think and act quickly
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • To be able to work independently and equally be an integral team player
  • To have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle as we cover rural Dorset

 

Desirable skills

  • Have an understanding of the Voluntary and Community Sector
  • Experience of supporting people with disabilities, including those with mental health issues
  • Be innovative, creative and solution focussed
  • Be willing to attend events, volunteer fairs etc, which may be during evenings and over weekends
  • Being comfortable working face-to-face, via online meetings and in the public domain
