Volunteer Fayre - A triumphant success!

Share

19th June 2023

From the moment the doors were opened until the final chair was put away, there was a buzz of excitement in the air at the Volunteer Fayre at Wimborne Community Centre, on Friday 9th June.

“Friendly and welcoming”, “Vibrant and positive“, “Interesting and useful conversations”, “Great networking”, “Building relationships” is some of the great feedback received following the event.

Eighteen organisations in total had the opportunity to showcase their good work, services and volunteering opportunities, there is already a waiting list for the next event.

Arranged in partnership between Volunteer Centre Dorset and Dorset Community Action as part of Volunteers’ Week, the fayre shone a light on volunteering in Dorset and helped organisations meet volunteers and volunteers meet organisations.

The Mayor of Wimborne, Councillor Diann March opened the event and enjoyed spending time chatting with each of the organisations, she spoke candidly about the important role volunteers play in our community.

Organisations were able to attend a variety of presentations throughout the afternoon on the theme of “The Volunteer Journey”. The training was run by Paula Bennetts from Dorset Community Action and Vicky Hall from Volunteer Centre Dorset and received comments such as “the training was an unexpected bonus and such a boost”.

Joe Langtree from Room to Reward (a unique volunteer-recognition charity created to say ‘thank you’ to volunteers), was the guest speaker.

It certainly was an action-packed afternoon, despite the warm weather. Ancient Technology Centre won the prize for the most interactive stall, winning a £50 voucher kindly donated by Hall and Woodhouse and a lucky volunteer won a £20 Love to Shop voucher, just by attending.

Thank you to everyone who came along, and we look forward to seeing you at the next one!
