VCD Become Dementia Friendly

Share

23rd September 2021

Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.

Volunteer Centre Dorset have recently become a Dementia Friendly organisations. Our staff and trustees have comeplted training to become dementia friends. This training has shown us as an organisation how to support people living with dementia to:

  • Use the telephone and how we can best communicate with the individual
  • Reading and writing and how our literature and marketing can be more dementia friendly
  • Getting around and how people living with dementia are impacted in using public transport

As well as these, we have a better understanding of dementia and how it can impact the individuals and their families. We would encourage other charitable organisations in Dorset to become dementia friendly, so we can be an inclusive community.
