Befrienders for the Community Credit Scheme

Share

22nd September 2021

The Community Credit Scheme supports people with learning disabilities find fulfilling voluntary roles such as dog walking, litter-picking, charity shop work, gardening etc . For every hour volunteered, they receive a credit note, or App credit which can then be exchanged at various local businesses for wellbeing activities, food or drink. We need volunteer befrienders, who can volunteer alongside the individual to help build their confidence, learn new skills, and generally offer some friendly support.  This may be for an hour or two, each week or every two weeks.

In order to keep this vital project running, we require volunteers to befriend people with learning disabilities. Coming out of lock down is an anxious time for many of us and people with learning disabilities have been particularly finding things difficult.  Some people are just looking for a friend to have a coffee and a chat with, which may lead to future volunteering when they are ready.
