LGBT+ Awareness Training
There are three courses available:
1 hour beginner course
Helps you support gender diverse young people, focusing on basic terminology and pronouns. As well as going over how your service can address these areas. During the beginner session you will look at:-
- Overview of Space Youth Project and how they can help
- Terminology, specifically transgender, cisgender, non-binary and intersex
- Importance of names and pronouns
- Legal protection for LGBT+ individuals
- Creating an inclusive organisation, recording systems, environment, and allyship
- Resources and signposting
- Opportunity for open and honest questions
2 hour intermediate course
Covers more than the beginner course - covering coming out and the direct effects of discrimination. Additionally using educational videos to help heighten your understanding. During the intermediate session you will look at:-
- Overview of Space Youth Project and how they can help
- Terminology, specifically transgender, cisgender, non-binary and intersex
- Understanding the difference between sex, sexuality, and gender
- Importance of names and pronouns
- Supporting individuals coming out
- Legal protection for LGBT+ individuals
- Issues facing young LGBT+ young people
- Creating an inclusive organisation, recording systems, environment, and allyship
- Resources and signposting
- Opportunity for open and honest questions
- Educational videos throughout to heighten understanding
3 hour advance course
Covers more than the intermediate course - including shared lived experiences from transgender individuals and interactive real life scenarios. Also includes a 10 minute comfort break. During the advanced session you will look at:-
- Overview of Space Youth Project and how they can help
- Terminology, specifically transgender, cisgender, non-binary and intersex
- Understanding the difference between sex, sexuality, and gender
- Shared lived experience of transgender individuals
- Importance of names and pronouns
- Supporting individuals coming out
- Legal protection for LGBT+ individuals
- Issues facing young LGBT+ young people
- Learning about gender euphoria and dysphoria
- Creating an inclusive organisation, recording systems, environment, and allyship
- Looking at real life scenarios
- Resources and signposting
- Opportunity for open and honest question
- Educational videos throughout to heighten understanding
