Volunteer Mentor

A Mentor is someone who will offer support to a Volunteer with Learning Disabilities, they can help during the Volunteering Role and for as long as needed.

Volunteer Centre Dorset offer full training to anyone wishing to become a Mentor, including Autism Awareness Training.

Volunteer Befriender

A Befriender is someone who helps a Volunteer with Learning Disabilities socialise locally. This could be something as simple as going for a walk or having a coffee together. Befriender’s also attend different Volunteering roles with the Learning Disability Volunteer to give them a taste, until they feel confident enough to go alone.

Befrienders can also help plan ahead and set goals.

If you have a Learning Disability, you can also become a Befriender with the right knowledge, help and support.

Volunteer Facilitator

A Facilitator is required to organise and lead Social/Action Groups. They help signpost Volunteers with Learning Disabilities to find activities locally.

Volunteer Ambassador

An Ambassador is someone with a Learning Disability who is available to help Facilitator’s organise events, put up posters, inform the group and organise days.

Here are a few ideas of activities our current Facilitators and Ambassadors have set up:
