This volunteering week we celebrated in store by having an art installation in our window, the subject being our longest standing volunteer Maureen. The painting was commissioned by a local artist #mrurchin for the shop. Maureen, as usual, was mucking about with some fancy dress items and we managed to get a photo.... The painting lives in the shop and is loved and remarked upon often. We have over 50 years volunteering experience in our shop and our volunteers are amazing. They work tirelessly and passionately for our charity and we simply couldn't function without them. They are cherished and we are grateful for every single hour given, always.
We were also extremely lucky to be invited to Weymouth College by some of our volunteers who attend the 6th form @ Westfield Art College. We had beautiful coffee and cakes, wonderful company and a tour of the excellent sixth form facility. We are lucky enough to some students join us on a Thursday morning, and are amazing. They meet and greet our customers and help make the place spick and span. We love having the students here!
We provide person-centred hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening, life-changing diagnosis. It’s not just expert medical care we provide. It’s the emotional support and practical things we take care of too. We do whatever we can to be a safety net for our patients and their loved ones.
Not only do we treat more conditions than any other UK charity in our hospices, neurological care centres and out in the community; we also campaign to improve the lives of people living with them. We see the person, not the condition, taking time to understand the small things that help that person live the fullest life they can.
One in four of us is affected by conditions such as cancer; heart failure; dementia; acquired brain injury; multiple sclerosis; Huntington’s disease and motor neurone disease. Whether it’s volunteering, running a fundraising event or making a donation, we need your support so we can be there for people at the most difficult time of their lives.
